Do I need to code to become a data analyst?
You need SQL (non-negotiable) and one BI tool; Python is a strong differentiator but many analysts are hired without it. The rarer skill is communication - turning a query result into a decision a manager can act on.
Excel or SQL first?
Excel gets you thinking in data and is still everywhere; SQL gets you hired. Start with two weeks of serious Excel (pivot tables, lookups), then move to SQL and stay there until JOINs and GROUP BY are automatic.
Data analyst vs BI analyst - what is the difference?
Substantial overlap. BI analyst roles centre on dashboards and reporting infrastructure in tools like Power BI or Tableau; data analyst roles lean more ad-hoc analysis and statistics. Job titles blur - read the spec, not the title.
