QA Engineer Roadmap
You are the safety net - finding the bugs before users do. QA remains a genuinely open entry door into tech at $55-75k US, and the automation path (SDET) raises both pay and options fast. Manual-only QA is shrinking; automation-capable QA is not.

QA Engineer roadmap FAQ
Is QA a dead-end or a doorway?
A doorway, if you automate. QA -> SDET -> developer or DevOps transitions are common because you learn the codebase, the failure modes and the tooling. Manual-only QA without automation ambitions is the version to avoid in 2026.
Which automation tool should I learn?
Playwright (TypeScript) is the strongest 2026 bet: modern, in-demand, and free to learn deeply. Concepts transfer to Cypress/Selenium. Add API testing - many teams value reliable API suites over flaky UI tests.
Do QA engineers need to code?
Increasingly yes - JavaScript/TypeScript at working level for automation. You need less depth than a developer, but test code is code: version-controlled, reviewed, maintained.
